The Thursday Post 726

During the last week we have had some exciting developments. We have had a vote on out tag line, designed our business card and flyer, and confirmed our next meeting location. Plus we have some new members!

The Thursday Post, Issue 726

  • Our MeetUp page will be closing down in the next couple of days. A final message has been sent to all members currently registered on the SoPAL MeetUp site. We'd like to encourage you to connect with anyone you may know and remind them we would love to have them come over to our current site and become members.
  • Our next member meeting is Thursday, August 16th, 2012 at 2pm. It will be held in the meeting room at the South County Library in Deale, MD. Please RSVP for the event HERE - we'd love to have you!
  • You may have noticed that a ballot for the SoPAL Tag line was distributed this week. Thank you to everyone who voted, it was a close race, but in the end we had a clear winner. Our tag line for SoPAL will be

A place where everyone can be an artist!

  •  We also have lovely business cards - if you are having an event, going to a show, or would like some to pass around, please contact me, Martiel, and I can provide you with some.

Front & Back
  • Furthermore on the note of printed media, we have also designed a general community recruitment flyer. Please help us spread the word about our organization and post these on public, community bulletin boards in libraries, grocery stores, colleges and other area near where you live. The more we get out, the more programs we art ultimately going to be able to offer. We will have these available at every meeting and will be attaching them to update emails to members. If you would like another copy or would like one before you get one by email, please contact me, Martiel and I'll send it out to asap.
  • Last, but not least, please welcome our newest member, Holly Mitchell to SoPAL.

That about wraps things up for today, have a artfully pleasant week and we'll talk soon!
Martiel

The Thursday Post 719

Greetings Everyone,

Here are the updates from the last week regarding organizational progress, cool things happening, and basically, what we've been up to and what is coming up. Thus with no further adieu, here is your next addition of your Thursday Post.

The last week has been very exciting as the IAC has made great headway in laying down additional foundational framework for our organization - culminating in a very successful meeting of the minds this past Sunday, July 15th. Here is a synopsis of what we covered and what is important for you to know.

  • We are planning our first event, a workshop style event. Tentatively we'd like to hold it on Oct. 20, 2012 in Upper Marlboro, MD - It will be a "Make and Take" style event where visitors can come and make something and then take it home with them.
    • If you are a current member of SoPAL or would like to become a member of SoPAL and volunteer for this event, we will be seeking volunteers. Please register as a member (Click Here for Registration) and to volunteer for the event simply email us at sopal.org@gmail.com make it to the attention of Joe.
  • We are also working on setting up an what we are currently calling the Artist Exchange Program. This is essentially where we partner with other groups who specialize in a particular genre of art (Polymer Clay, Painting, Sculpture, Mix Media, Photography, Culinary, etc.) to promote workshops. The details on how this program will work are still being determined, however, if you are part of a group who is interested in learning more about getting increased exposure for your workshops, please contact us directly by email so we may assist you.
  • SoPAL is also seeking office space for our organization. We feel a space that is approximately 200-300 sq. ft at this time is the most appropriate if we have access to a larger meeting space. If not, then something slightly larger would be considered. If you are aware of a space that is available or have a space that is available, please let us know by sending an email.

Upcoming Events & Important Information

  • The next Member Meeting is set for Thursday, August 16, 2012 @ 2pm. Tentatively we have scheduled to meet at the Deale Library in South County.
  • October 20, 2012 is our first event - if you'd like to participate, please email us at sopal.org@gmail.com
  • As we are posting Local Events each Wednesday, a calendar will be implemented soon on the blog so you can see where things fall  - keep and eye out for this coming soon!
